This week eight lucky finalists met at the Kings Head Hotel in the Cotswolds to demonstrate why they deserved to have the Nicest Job in Britain. Only one winner would be selected to travel the country for the next 12 months visiting 40 different charities for only a week each, ultimately making a difference toward their incredible cause. Givergy’s Head of Marketing, Lisa Vecchio, was fortunate to be on the judging panel…this is what she had to say about her experience.
“What a pleasure it was to meet each of the finalists, they certainly didn’t make my job easy. Being 1 of 4 judges on the panel, it was a full day of meeting with the finalists to learn about why they deserve to have this amazing job. It was such a humbling experience to hear each of their unique stories.
Their passion for the sector, their belief in the campaign, and their confidence in making a difference to the world was overwhelmingly heart-warming. Alice, Olly, Heather, Jenny, Sali, Nat, Andy and Maya – each one of the candidates without a doubt is a winner in my book.
One element to being a finalist was to demonstrate creativity in fundraising. Each candidate had only 10 days to fundraise as much as possible before their presentation to the judging panel. 10 days! They keyword was creativity and I must applaud each of their efforts.
Take Alice for example, she crawled for 5K across Bristol on her hands and knees to raise awareness for RSPCA; Andy created a superhero campaign at a school fundraiser in support of Mary Stephen’s Hospice; Maya conquered her fear of heights on a zip-line; Nat vowed to shave her head for Little Princes Trust; and Jenny, Olly and Heather auctioned off a money can’t-buy-experience on Givergy.com. In total all 8 contestants raised a staggering £13,159 in the short 10 day turnaround, and some campaigns are still live!
I was really wowed at the next stage of the competition. Each candidate presented their ultimate reason WHY they deserved the job. Learning about each of their personal stories and individual motivators truly made the decision challenging. We not only wanted to know what drove them to participate but to also learn HOW they would put theory into practice when the entire UK would be following along with their journey – it’s all about content.
After each candidate presented, my fellow judges and I put our scores into a sealed envelope. We’d have to wait one more day for the results to be added up in secrecy. After much anticipation however I’m proud to announce that the winner of the Nicest Job is Alice!”
