  • Limit the number of items to between 4 and 6 – any more and it will drag on too long;
  • Gauge the money in the room carefully – no one likes an awkward moment when the auctioneer has to drop the start bid; and
  • Get the right auctioneer – unfortunately in many cases it is a case of you pay for what you get!
